Hi, I’m Sonia
About 6 years ago, I took my first solo trip to Nicaragua, and looking back, it completely changed the way I see travel.
It wasn't because everything was perfect. It was because, for the first time, I realised I was perfectly capable of figuring things out on my own. I met amazing people, had conversations I would never have had at home, tried lots of new things, and came back feeling like I had just taken the best trip of my life.
Since then, solo travel has taken me all over the world. It has introduced me to lifelong friends, led me to experiences I never thought I'd try, and even played a part in me meeting my current partner.
For years, I looked at women travelling solo on Instagram and wished it were me. They seemed so adventurous, confident, and free, and I felt like I could never build the courage to do the same.
But the reality is that it was possible for me too. I didn't need to be the biggest adventurer in the world to start.
For example, I used to be absolutely terrified of open water. The idea of swimming in the sea scared me, so you can imagine that diving or surfing felt completely out of the question. Fast forward a few years, and they're now some of my favourite things to do whenever I'm travelling.
It didn't happen overnight. But little by little, through travelling solo and building confidence in myself, I became closer to the person I wanted to be.
What I love most about solo travel isn't actually the places. It's what it does to you.
I've watched it happen to myself, and I've watched it happen to friends who spent years saying, "I'd love to do that one day." Many of them eventually booked the trip, travelled solo, got their diving certifications, moved abroad, or simply stopped waiting for someone else to join them before doing the things they wanted to do.
That's a big part of why I created this space.
I genuinely believe solo travel is one of the most empowering things a woman can do for herself. Not because it's always easy, but because it reminds you how capable you are.
And if I can help make that first step feel a little less intimidating, then that's exactly what I'm here for.
